U.S. Convoy Attacked

A suicide bomber in Kabul, Afghanistan attacked a United States embassy convoy Monday morning. The bombing, focused on a United Nations vehicle, killed at least three and injured a number of Afghani bystanders. The incident is under investigation by NATO ISAF (International Security Assistance Force).

Due to the nature of the incident, the area has been sealed off. The convoy route, Jalalabad Road, has seen a number of attacks over the last few years. The road is the main passageway from Kabul to Bagram Air Force Base, which makes it a particularly attractive target for suicide bombers.

Last month a suicide bomber attacked the gates at the air force base while Vice President Dick Cheney visited, killing over twenty people while injuring a number of others. The military base at Bagram is the headquarters for the U.S. led coalition in Afghanistan.
