Bush No Quid Pro Quo with Iran

President Bush condemed Iran for the capture of British sailors in Iraqi not Iranian waters and called for their immediate release.  He also indicated that there would not be a prisoner exchange of Iranian captives seized in Iraq for British troops seized in Iraqi waters by Iran.

Bush would not comment about Britain's options if Iran does not release the hostages, but he seemed to reject any swapping of the British captives for Iranians detained in Iraq.

"I support the prime minister when he made it clear there were no quid pro quos," Bush said.

Branding a Candidate

Sponsored Article

We've mentioned before that several of the candidates suffered branding issues this week when their websites or my space pages or secondlife accounts were targeted by pranksters or attack ads.  We have suggested that maybe these candidates needed to hire some additional Web services but possibly a branding guru would be a better fit.

Our sponsor Brand Identity Guru Inc. recently provided a press release describing their ability to work tirelessly for their clients promoting loyalty and a consumer perception about the products and people that they represent.  Political candidates are in essence building the brand of their own political image.  Many of the marketing lessons apply to products applied to political candidates.  The candidates know this fact very well and are engaged with many political gurus and consultants, however this week is a good example that some of those political consultants may not necessarily always be up to snuff when it comes to the online environment and therefore a call to a Branding Agency might be in order.

Obama Has A Platform?

Barack Obama has come under fire this week while on the campaign trail. Many questions have been raised in regards to where Mr. Obama stands on the issues and furthermore, how his administration would run this country. It is true that Obama is yet to deliver any solid stances on policies other than the war in Iraq, which he strongly opposes. Another criticism is that the first term Illinois Senator doesn't have the experience necessary to leed the country.

With an impressive following, Obama has mobilized his campaign and is picking up steam despite the critics. Obama's message has been that he wants to change Washington by unification and bi-partisanship. Eventually Senator Obama is going to have to divulge his platform to the Democratic constituency if he hopes to gain the nomination of his party.

War Games Gulf Style

The United States Navy began exercises off of the coast of Iran this week. The timing of these exercises is peculiar, seeing as though Iran "abducted" 15 British sailors earlier in the week. U.S. Navy Cmdr. Kevin Aandahl claims that the naval operations are not in response to the Iranian abduction or to intimidate the Islamist Republic.

Currently it is unclear as to when the exercises were planned, and the timing has led many to question the motives behind the maneuvers off the coast of Iran. The naval operation included two carrier strike groups and over one hundred airplanes and is the largest training exercise in the gulf since 2003.

Even More Red Tape

Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Robert Mueller attempted to avoid possible changes to the controversial Patriot Act Tuesday. Mueller stated, "The statute did not cause the errors, the FBI's implementation did." This all came in response to Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy's re-examination of the powers granted by the Patriot Act.

Director Mueller believes that his agency can fulfill the requirements of the Patriot Act and that another agency need not be created to handle the bill. Senator Leahy is going to need to be convinced of the FBI's ability to handle such a task after the inspector general’s report citing erroneous behavior as well as gross negligence.

Health Problems at the White House

Tony Snow announced today that cancer has spread to his liver.  This was very bad news for the press secretary and he delivered the information in an emotional announcement before the press corp.

Last week, Vice President Dick Cheney visited George Washington University Hospital.  He was not checking on the establishment’s conditions. Cheney was instead brought to the hospital due to a recurring pain in his leg, which stemmed from the blood clot an ultrasound discovered sometime the  week before following his marathon trip around the world.

G.W.U. Hospital spokeswoman Megan McGinn, stated that the ultrasound revealed no complications and that Cheney would remain on his current treatment schedule. Cheney has since returned to the White House and continues his normal schedule.

The White House is embattled from many sides and it looks like bad health may cause some turn overs in the administration before scandals do.

Did Romney fund Hitler-Granholm Comparison and Why?

Mitt Romney's finance committee has put their candidate in hot water with an ill-advised ad, which compared Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm to Adolf Hitler. The Romney campaign unwittingly contributed to the ad with donations toward a Detroit area political action group entitled "Voice the Vote". The advertisement was intended to discourage African American voters from supporting the incumbency of Granholm.

John Rakolta, a fundraiser for Romney, stated that Democrats are just trying to embarrass the Romney campaign.

The Yearly Review - Get More Perspective with a 360 Degree approach

Sponsored Article

anyone that's ever received a unfair year in review can attest that it's not good to have just one person perform your review.  This actually holds true for organization as well.  Successful organizations typically do not rely on one person's judgment prior to making a decision.  They taken feedback from all the stakeholders and organization and work to develop a plan or perspective it will provide solutions to the entire group.

Our sponsor appraisal360.co.uk recently provided a release describing in their innovative approach to simplifying the process of performing a 360° review.  They've move the process of the 360 degree feedback and appraisal system into a web-based solution that can be easily deployed online to any small medium or large company.  Moving the solution online also saves a great deal of money and training and deployment costs in addition to the fact that overall it's just cheaper than many of the high-priced solutions that have been offered by gurus in consultants for many years now.

Al Gore Chasing 350,000 Signature Petition for Environment - Congressional visit Tomorrow

Al Gore is hoping to collect 350,000 signatures for a petition that will be delivered to Congress tomorrow.  He's getting close to that goal with approximately 250,000 signatures already.  The man that invented the Internet has established a website that automates this process and emboldens people to sign a message and send it to their representative in Congress.

It is been said that most members of Congress ignore their e-mails these days, if you want to get the attention of someone in Congress you should send them a snail mail.  This is unfortunate but apparently it's one of those things that's come about in our modern times juxtaposed against the modern age of nasty e-mail aims and tears that send dangerous letters to Capitol Hill.  The combination and the excessive amount of money spent to ensure that mail delivered to the capital is safe apparently forces politicians to pay attention to snail mail while junking everything else.

Al Gore hopes to use his Internet savvy along with his political pull (he still placing well in the presidential campaign that he's not running for) to bring together the power of people's voices through e-mail focused through his own message on Capitol Hill.  Congress may ignore 350,000 e-mails from you or me independently, however when Al Gore shows up on their doorsteps with CNN and C-SPAN cameras rolling and makes a statement that 350,000 people have sent Congress a message then Congress will need to collectively pay a little bit more attention.

Buying the Presidency

Late last week, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed legislation that will move his states primary to Feb 5th. Schwarzenegger claimed that now California would get the respect that it deserves. California has a massive population when compared to other states across America, but to reach all those voters candidates will have to raise an insane amount of money.

Currently there are 19 candidates from several political parties, trying to campaign, garner support and above all else raise enough money to get their message out. With all the large states moving their primaries forward, how will candidates like Joe Biden, Sam Brownback and Bill Richardson fair? The primary is on its way to becoming an all out race across the country, where it will be a battle of wallets not ideas.

Using New Hampshire as an example, a candidate can spend two days and two million dollars in the Granite State and offer their platform to every voter several times over, whereas in California (36 times the population of N.H.) a candidate might be able to buy a handful of commercial spots. If this is allowed to continue, good candidates will be unable to compete and put their message out there. Where will Democracy be then?

Independent Polling Indicates Lack of Trust

A recent poll of Iraqi's found that only one out of every five "trust" U.S. led coalition troops. Furthermore, this same poll indicates that about half hold little to no confidence in the Iraqi government. The British Broadcasting Corp., ABC News, USA Today and Germany's ARD television administered the poll Monday.

The concerns of those polled vary from region to region, however the majority of Iraqi civilians primary fears are that they or a family member may fall victim to violence due to the increasing polarity of the country across sectarian lines. Sunni's and Shiite's are the dominant religious groups Iraq and are currently at odds over a number of topics. The execution of Saddam Hussein remains a volatile subject in Iraq. Sunni's view the execution as inappropriate and a roadblock to reconciliation and Shiite's hold an opposing view.

Back in the United States, the politicalization of issues ranging from withdrawal deadlines to troop surges and then to additional troop surges has left a bad taste in the mouths of both Iraqi's and Americans.

U.S. Convoy Attacked

A suicide bomber in Kabul, Afghanistan attacked a United States embassy convoy Monday morning. The bombing, focused on a United Nations vehicle, killed at least three and injured a number of Afghani bystanders. The incident is under investigation by NATO ISAF (International Security Assistance Force).

Due to the nature of the incident, the area has been sealed off. The convoy route, Jalalabad Road, has seen a number of attacks over the last few years. The road is the main passageway from Kabul to Bagram Air Force Base, which makes it a particularly attractive target for suicide bombers.

Last month a suicide bomber attacked the gates at the air force base while Vice President Dick Cheney visited, killing over twenty people while injuring a number of others. The military base at Bagram is the headquarters for the U.S. led coalition in Afghanistan.

Miers Calls for Fresh Blood and Gets 8 US Attorney Heads on a Platter

Karl Rove has found himself back in the spotlight again, this time in the fall-out of Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez's U.S. Attorney dismissal scandal. Preliminary reports indicate that there was substantial e-mail communication between Rove and Gonzalez regarding the purge of federal prosecutors.

The e-mails discuss how the cleansing should take place, whether there should be resignation requests or selective replacements. It has also been documented that former White House Counsel Harriet Miers wanted "Fresh Blood" in the 93 federal positions.

There is something extremely troubling about an administration that seeks to fire every single US Attorney across the nation in a single blow.  It would appear on the surface that firing all US attorneys would put soul hiring power of all the supported attorneys in the US Attorney offices around the country in the direct control of the White House.  Congress is also following up on the potential that the actual eight people that were fired may have been influenced or penalized due to some of their investigations of Republicans.  It is possible that the real story here is not who was fired, but who was not fired.

California Primary to Move

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed legislation yesterday that will move California's primary to February 5th. In addition to California, a number of other states have also been considering moving up their primary dates. The motivation behind Governor Schwarzenegger's move is to give California voters more of a hand in selecting their candidates.

Other states that will be contemplating earlier primaries are New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Texas and Florida. Although Iowa and New Hampshire will still hold their primaries in January, it is believed that the smaller states roles will not be diminished. The concentration of primaries within a short amount of time could diminish candidates abilities to visit many of these states for qualitative amounts of time, resulting in a sprint like race through the primary season. Regardless, it will make candidates campaign more and earlier than ever as is already being witnessed now in 2007.

Thousands of Flights Cancelled due to Winter Weather - Tarmac Tragedy Stories Expected

Winter Snow Storms in the Northeast United States have caused the cancellation of thousands of flights heading into the weekend.  The cancellations are having a severe impact all around the country.  Some airports from Dayton to New York City have been closed.

Travellers from Orlando, Savannah and Charlotte are experiencing problems as a result of the cancellation even on flights that are direct flights to international destinations from those airports.  Charlotte travellers reported non-moving lines the length of the aiport for each type of flight including first class, international and domestic flights.

Among other things, the airlines seem to have continuing difficulty in keeping people informed about the problems.  Travellers have reported that they were unable to get through to their airlines to confirm their flights (online declared flight status as a go with no delays reported).  However, phoning the airlines systems for US Airways resulted in a wait of over 2 hours and then no response.  Those same travellers arrived at the airport four hours ahead of their flight departure time to be received in extremely long lines that are not moving.

This snarling of airline traffic is certain to bring a fresh round of tragic tarmac stories today.  Some flight somewhere is going to get tangled up and travelers are going to be the victims.

Avoid Getting Hacked and Cracked

We live in a secure world.  I don't mean physically I mean we live in a secure computing world.  Everything we do is protected by a password or a Password Management system.  This is a positive thing but it requires a significant amount of maintenance and legwork for IT managers to stay on top of the latest trends.

Our sponsor Symark Software has recently provided a release describing their PowerBroker and PowerPassword software designed to support the new HP Integrity Servers and the HP-UX 11i v3 OS.

Their server tools combine best-of-breed functionality and ease of use for administrators and working to maintain systems that match policies across multiple platforms.

Clinton's do What Clinton's do Best - Raise Money and Rise in the Polls

For another week Hillary Clinton claimed the top spot in the Democratic Primary poll. With approximately 37% of poled voters, Clinton has managed to maintain a double digit lead on Barack Obama 22%, the unannounced candidacy of Al Gore 13% and of course John Edwards with 12%. Clinton has been able to maintain her lead despite the surge of Obama in the polls and the growing popularity of Edwards.

Although Al Gore has repeated he will not run for office, he still maintains a healthy number in the polls. The same polls indicate without Gore as a candidate, Clinton's percentage of support bulks up to a hefty 44%, giving her an even wider growing margin over the rest of the field. The polls rate of error is approximately 3%.

Legislation for Withdrawal Pending

Democrats in both the House and Senate have begun the process of pushing legislation for the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq. This legislation comes at a time where American death tolls weigh in over 3,200. Republicans from both houses, who are confident that the proposal will not find its way to President Bush’s desk, have met the recent legislation with resistance.

The legislation has also drawn the ire of President Bush himself, who claims a withdrawal of U.S. forces will thrust Iraq into further destabilization and "hobble" the American commanders on the ground. President Bush even went as far to say that if any of the legislation reaches his desk, it would be met with a veto. The House will hold its first vote on the issue Thursday in the appropriations committee.

Politicians Need to Seek SEO Specialists

Its getting to the point where politicians need to hire an SEO specialist to help with their political campaigns.  SEO stance for search engine optimization, and in essence it basically means that a person running a website can control or influence who comes to their website from search engine results.

Politicians need to work such that they can own their own names such that when a person is a search on John Kerry or Joe Biden, or Hillary Clinton, the results that search will put their own website at the top of the Google page.  Our sponsor recently provided a release talking about their capabilities as an SEO company

They offer SEO services in the San Diego Bay area.  Working with the specialists in this area can definitely improve the amount of traffic a website receives whether their politician or not.  Owning your own names such the raw a political rival can't torpedo your campaign efforts with an attack ads based on a search for your name is priceless.

Troop Surge Continues to Surge

The Troop surge continues to surge as the Bush ministration, specifically George Bush recently approved 4400 additional US troops to bolster the Troop surge of 21,500 troops.  The 4400 additional troops will be comprised of two components, 2400 military police, and 2000 or combat support troops.

The additional troops are expected to cost an additional $1 billion bringing the total troop search costs to approximately $3.2 billion.

Chines Stock Market is Going to Crash

Many people in the talking the last week or two about the stock market correction.

The US stock market correction was in part triggered by a what appeared to be a correction in the Chinese stock market.  The Chinese stock market is relatively new and extremely inexperienced.  The problem with the Chinese stock market is that it is not built on a solid foundation.  Unlike American London and Japanese markets the Chinese market is just a few years old.

The Chinese market does not have any of the controls in place that you would find in more mature markets.  The controls that it does have in place are not maintained and often times they are openly subverted by companies banks and government officials.

That subversion typically comes in the form of cooking the books.  Chinese businessmen are pumping out fake numbers in their books to pump up their fake stock prices.  Chinese banks are supporting these numbers and the market so they can also repay financial reward to pay for the extreme risk that their taking them in financing the same companies.  The audit firms involved in reviewing the companies and the banks are turning a blind eye to all of the irregularities that would normally cause an instant scandal anywhere else in the world.

I've seen this first in myself when I worked for a Chinese company.  I work for a spin off of a division that came out of the role and was purchased by a Chinese manufacturer.  They cooked the books left right sideways and forwards, and after several people in the United States uncovered these financial irregularities we turn them in to the authorities.  The problem is that the US authorities have no regulatory control over Chinese companies.  Chinese revenue Chinese banks and Chinese auditors have no vested interest in improving the quality of the financial books kept on their side of the ocean.  There's too much money to be stolen by continuing to pump up the myth that their economy is strong.

And so what's going to happen is that the Chinese stock market is going to crash.  Corrections occur when economies heat up and investors attention gets slightly ahead of where the actual economy resides.  Markets crash when there is no true economy, when the economy is a myth or pumped up with lies and deceit.  So China is going to go through an old fashion route very soon.  This will have a major impact on markets around the world as they are tied very closely to the Chinese economy.  To give me some idea of just how much money is being stolen, the Chinese stock market is inflated and value from $400 billion at the end of 2005 to $1.5 trillion just a few days ago in March that the little over $1 trillion in stolen money essentially if the market corrects that is crashes to a moralistic valuation number.

Wal-Mart may be delivering cheaper prices on goods from China, but the Chinese economy is about to get a rollback of its own.

McCain Visits North Carolina - Cannon Fodder Affairs with Gingrich

"Peoples private lives need to be kept private", Senator John McCain said Friday, regarding former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. It appears as though the new revelations of an extra-marital affair will be cannon fodder for Democrats to discredit and possibly discourage a presidential bid by the former speaker. This news comes amid McCains trip to North Carolina where he secured support from Senator Richard Burr while echoing sentiments of his beliefs toward redemption.

The Newt Gingrich affair scandal is pretty much old news, but it does smack of hypocrisy.  It'll be interesting to see if hypocrisy that's almost 10 years old, comes back to bite Newt.  Regardless, politics will remain politics.

Restraining Pharmacists Moral Choices at the counter - Emergency Contraception

The controversial emergency contraceptive pill has once again found its way into the news. Apparently pharmacists for the company needed to be reminded that they are there to distribute drugs not regulate them.

Plan B a.k.a. the morning after pill, has brought up a number of moral and ethical quagmires since its inception. Kroger Co. stated that they would reeducate their pharmacy staff on company policy in the attempt to avoid any potential future issues.

Be Careful Travelling to Disney World

If your heading to Florida this year for spring break, please be careful on the roads.  It's important to get away and relax and have some fun, but please, be extra careful trying to get there.  I live in the Atlanta area and a previously lived in Savannah, and I know that if you're traveling to Florida on the roads you typically have to go through one of those cities.  The roads are pretty safe and easy and straightforward going to Savannah, although there is a lot of road construction.  The roads and traffic in Atlanta is just plain crazy, so be careful.

Pompano Beach Tragedy

What kind of world are we living in today?

Kids get abducted walking to the bus stop, teens have to worry about getting assaulted at school and that is just children.

What about the parents?

In another senseless act of violence, authorities in Broward County Florida are searching for two men believed to be behind the workplace shooting of a Pompano Beach woman.

The victim a clerk working at Florida Builder Appliances was rushed to an area hospital and is listed in critical condition. It is truly a sad state of affairs when honest, hard working and law abiding citizens are attacked brutally without provocation. We can only hope that the victim of this horrible tragedy recovers and that the perpetrators are apprehended and punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Tragic Bus Crash Claims Another Victim

The terrible bus crash that claimed the lives of several Blufton University baseball players and coaches claimed yet another life earlier today. Zach Arend, an 18 year old from Ohio, is the latest victim in this horrible accident that could have so been so easily prevented.

The accident occurred after the buses driver mistook an exit ramp for the highway in the early hours this passed Friday. This highway exit has been the cause of many lesser accidents over the last few years. Transit authorities could have easily avoided this tragic accident, which claimed so many young lives, by installing better lighting or even more descript signage. It is a terrible loss for both the school and the community.

It struck me as somewhat crazy when local officials down there in Atlanta and with the state of Georgia indicated that there is nothing wrong with this exit ramp, when they were interviewed on CNN.  Unfortunately the rest of the world including these baseball players and their families had to learn just how screwed up the roads are down here the hard way.

Need for a Luxury Spa Vacation?

Sponsored Article

Barack Obama may have had a bad day, but it's unlikely that he'll be a will to go visit a luxury spa and take a vacation anytime soon.  That doesn't mean that you can't experience a Luxury Spa Vacation.

Our sponsor vacations.net recently provided a new press release announcing their upgraded website.  The new site offers a much more navigable way to find a vacation packages that you're looking for.  They offer many all-inclusive trips and packages to various destinations, such that you don't have to be hit with miscellaneous or extra expenses.  While you're trying to enjoy yourself.  Unfortunately, just as Senator Obama has learned all-inclusive won't cover your parking tickets.  So if you get a ticket, make sure you pay it and don't wait 17 years.

Obama Pays Back Taxes and Old Parking Tickets from over a decade Ago

Barack Obama had an embarrassing day today.  He had to pay old parking tickets, dating back 17 years.  Not just a parking ticket or a couple parking tickets, but 17 parking tickets dating back to 1998 and 1990 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  He also had to pay back taxes, and excise tax on an automobile of $73 to Somerville, Massachusetts.

Many candidates often correct their taxes as they start to run for office.  John Kerry had to amend his tax return when he ran for president in 2004.  There's something strange however, about a current Senator and potential presidential candidate that has lingering parking tickets dating back almost 2 decades.  If nothing else, this shows just how young and at one time how irresponsible Barack Obama was.

Cheney's Aid Found Guilty on 4 Counts

Lewis Libby (aka Scooter) was found guilty by a jury of his peers on 4 of 5 counts brought against him in court.  Libby was a former aide of US Vice President Dick Cheney.

He was found guilty of obstructing justice, lying and perjury during investigation tied to the Iraq war, specifically relating to the leak of information about a covert United States CIA agent.  Libby faces a maximum of 25 years in prison now and will await sentencing.

His attorney indicated that in appeal may be in the works.

Flutie was found in a cent on one counts of lying to the FBI.

Vice President Treated for Blood Clot

Vice President Dick Cheney is being treated for a blood clot in his leg following a nine-day trip to various countries including Oman Afghanistan Pakistan Great Britain and Australia and Japan.  The vice president is taking blood thinners to treat the clot in his leg.  He has had a long history of heart and blood problems throughout the years.

His recent journey has taken him over 22,000 miles on a nine-day trip.  Blood clots often form when people sit in one position or for too much time (as I stand up for my desk chair).  The vice president had delivered a speech to the Veterans of Foreign Wars conference and was shortly thereafter taken to see his doctor when he was starting to feel and report some discomfort in his leg.  Blood clots can be extremely dangerous even lethal if not treated.  Even under treatment they can still be dangerous if a blood clot breaks free and lodges itself in a person's brain heart or lungs.

The vice president with his history of heart ailments appears to be taking the situation seriously and as doctors seem to have things under control.  The risk will remain however even under treatment.
