Miers Calls for Fresh Blood and Gets 8 US Attorney Heads on a Platter

Karl Rove has found himself back in the spotlight again, this time in the fall-out of Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez's U.S. Attorney dismissal scandal. Preliminary reports indicate that there was substantial e-mail communication between Rove and Gonzalez regarding the purge of federal prosecutors.

The e-mails discuss how the cleansing should take place, whether there should be resignation requests or selective replacements. It has also been documented that former White House Counsel Harriet Miers wanted "Fresh Blood" in the 93 federal positions.

There is something extremely troubling about an administration that seeks to fire every single US Attorney across the nation in a single blow.  It would appear on the surface that firing all US attorneys would put soul hiring power of all the supported attorneys in the US Attorney offices around the country in the direct control of the White House.  Congress is also following up on the potential that the actual eight people that were fired may have been influenced or penalized due to some of their investigations of Republicans.  It is possible that the real story here is not who was fired, but who was not fired.
