I'll Be Back-ing McCain Says The Terminator

 ill-be-back-ing-mccain-schwarzenneger

John McCain appears to be following a winning formula that worked in Florida as he goes to the mattresses during Super Tuesday in California against Mitt Romney.  Florida's Republican Governor, a potential Vice President himself, backed John McCain and helped drive the Republican political machine, John's way like a robot on auto pilot.

Now, John McCain has picked up the support of the Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California 6 days before the vote in California.  That has got to be a hard blow for the more conservative Mitt Romney, especially as the moderate McCain heads to the left coast to wrangle in as many independents, moderates, Hispanics and people hit by a real estate market that has taken on average about $100,000 in wealth from home owners across the state under President George W Bush's term.

Florida results are starting to show that hard core conservatives are dropping the conservative wing of the Republican party like  a 500 dumb bell when they take a blow to the financial gut.  I predict John McCain will do very well in California.

Money Does Talk in California

That said, Mitt Romney has the financial clout to out spend John McCain in California and the Left Coast favors the almighty (weak) dollar more than political tendencies.  That is probably going to be Romney's only saving grace.

Clinton Camp Working to Disenfranchise the African American Vote for the Primaries

disenfranchised-voter Since early December the Clinton Campaign seems to be engaging in a direct attempt to disenfranchise the African American vote.

Their strategy seems to be to thwart younger African American voters from turning out and voting for a young Barack Obama.  The Clinton Campaign is still working to shore up the elder African American vote.

They have made a number of back handed attacks on Obama from calling out his use of cocaine and other drugs, an extreme negative.  To repeating over and over that we are living in a monumental time when an African American can run for President.  Then tonight Hillary insinuated that Barack was involved working as a slum landlord or something.

On the point of the historic times concept, I think this is a bit of a backhanded trap.  Barack is not the first African American running for President.  There have been several very serious candidates that stood a good chance of making it to the highest office including Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and Alan Keys just to name the most recent.

When Hillary repeats this concept like a mantra, she makes Obama look like he is special as opposed to just another candidate.  When she applies this special  label to Barack Obama it reduces his universal appeal bit by bit.

So at the end of the day, all of this pushes Barack Obama into the category of the first African American candidate with a chance.

"Oh, isn't that nice." that's the almost condescending thought that you can hear people thinking whenever Hillary mentions that we are living in extraordinary times.  You can almost envision imprinted promotional products like nice coffee mugs passed out at the Democratic Convention as a nice consolation prize.

Barack Obama needs to step back outside of that 'special' category and get back to the universal appeal position that he occupied so successfully last summer and fall.

So as you listen, to the back handed jabs that come out of the Clinton Campaign from Hillary and Bill and their staffers, consider if you are or if you were a young African American voter does the statement turn you off from potentially showing up and voting.  Does it make you lose hope?  Might it stop you from supporting Barack Obama?

If yes, then the Clinton's plan might just win.

Huckabee Proves to be Political Moron

I believe we witnessed a political melt down this week in South Carolina as Mike Huckabee referenced his experiences eating squirrels cooked in pop corn poppers and later told South Carolina voters that they were a lot like people from Arkansas.  They were supposedly a lot like people from Arkansas that would tell outsiders to stick a flag up their rear end if bossed around by outsiders.

That was the message Huckabee was trying to force on South Carolina in a pandering way and it contributed to his loss in South Carolina but will almost definitely cost him any possible chance at any place on the Republican ticket.  It just is not Presidential to tell people where to stick it.

Mike Huckabee lost the South Carolina primary this evening after making moronic remarks about the Confederate flag.

Huckabee ~ You don’t like people from outside the state coming in and telling you what to do with your flag . . .

In fact, if somebody came to Arkansas and told us what to do with our flag, we’d tell ‘em what to do with the pole…

Huckabee Loses South Carolina Over Confederate Flag Remarks

Comments like that will not get you far in Republican Presidential politics.  It won't get you far in Christian Conservative politics and won't even get you far as a preacher.  Huckabee will be doing good to get a job selling raymond weil watches on a street corner after this election.

Howard Dean had a goofy crazy yell.  John Kerry got swift boated, and McCain got Bush Whacked (in SC too) and now Huckabee shucked himself right of the election.

A Third Winner in Michigan?

It's still early in Michigan, regardless of the time zone you look at, and it is possible that Michigan might just yield a third Republican winner in the primary race there.  The exit polls seem to be shaping up to indicate that Michigan voters are turning out very conservative (as opposed to moderate) and they are turning out for issues as opposed to principles (no ditto heads there).

This seems to spell bad news for John McCain and possibly good news for Michigan's home grown and fled the state,  Mitt Romney.  If Romney wins then the Republicans would have their third unique winner in as many primaries.  Many people have accused the Grand Old Party of almost having a succession plan when it comes to nominating a Presidential candidate.  The party almost seems to give the role to the person that is next in line.

  • George H Bush
  • Bob Dole
  • George W Bush
  • John Mc  - Ooops!

The GOP seems to be experiencing a schizophrenic primary race.  Its not a nomination at all so far, and might truly end up being a race.  That doesn't necessarily spell a successful election cycle however.  The GOP has always had the advantage of figuring things out early and moving to the center quickly.  If this race continues, the Republicans (Like the Democrats) might be stuck fighting it out to the very end and that might just keep gridlock in the election for many more weeks, possibly many months.

McCain Wins Just Enough to Play Another Day

John McCain won the New Hampshire primary last night, but he did not win terribly much.  The New Hampshire primary last night proved for Republicans and Democrats that this primary season is going to be a neck and neck race right through Super Tuesday if not through actual battles at the conventions themselves.

McCain is polling in third place in Michigan this morning for example and all the candidates seem to be jockeying around with position as the focus shifts from state to state.  Many voters have realized that this election is too important to settle for anyone less than the single person they trust.

That means that people may not shift their allegiance based on who the projected winner might be.  Barack Obama lost his 'Huge' bounce coming out of Iowa.  Voters are turning out and they are voting and they are not compromising.  This is likely to be a huge sign that this will be an extremely contentious election and at this point that contention will probably fuel at least one strong independent run if not maybe two.  We could see multiple potential spoilers for the Democrats and the Republicans.

If voters will turn out and not compromise in the primaries, its unlikely that they will change their colors come next November, especially as the economy seems halfway confirmed to slipping into a recession.

I am out in Las Vegas, NV for the Consumer Electronics Show and the thing that has more buzz this year in electronics is not a gizmo or a gadget, its the election.  People here even are able to look past all the HD flat panel TV's and HDMI Cables connecting them and realize that this election is going to be extremely significant in 2008.

Hillary Loses Over 70 Percent of Iowa Vote

Barracks Other First Lady? Hillary Clinton It took two men to do it, but the inevitable President Pre-Elect Hillary Clinton was defeated in Iowa tonight.  Hillary Clinton lost over 70% of the vote in Iowa this evening.  That was a major upset for someone that was supposed to automatically claim the White House and reinstall the Clinton years.

It would appear that Bill Clinton was unable to salvage the damage done by Hillary's campaign management team several weeks ago.  There is definitely no doubt now that her strategy was not working, and it's likely that Bill Clinton will take an even more prominent role heading into the New Hampshire primary next week.

Barack Obama is tonight soaking in the luxury of an Iowa victory.  However, many Democrats over the years have learned in Iowa victory is almost a poison pill that can stand in the way of winning the White House.  His winning in Iowa definitely shows progress for his campaign and especially for African-Americans, however, he must also buckle down and work twice as hard if he's to make this small win in Iowa a big victory across the country.  Noticeably absent from Barack Obama's speech this evening, was the woman behind the campaign that helped to make it happen.  I am not talking about his wife Mrs. Obama, I'm talking about Oprah Winfrey.  I definitely believe that Oprah Winfrey was an extremely important aspect of Barack Obama's win tonight, especially as Barack Obama did much better at bringing in young voters and leveling the playing field with female voters.

It is also interesting to note that this year, a Republican candidate, Ron Paul, is one of the few people that is truly benefiting from the Internet effect.  He has leveraged the power of those little translucent fiber optic cables to collect a record amount of donations and propel him towards a potential 3rd party run.
