Republicans from both houses, who are confident that the proposal will not find its way to President Bush’s desk, have met the recent legislation with resistance.
The legislation has also drawn the ire of President Bush himself, who claims a withdrawal of U.S. forces will thrust Iraq into further destabilization and "hobble" the American commanders on the ground. President Bush even went as far to say that if any of the legislation reaches his desk, it would be met with a veto.
