The US FBI and other authorities stopped several people involved in arranging a coup d'tat in California. More specifically they were planning a coup and purchasing weapons in California to execute the coup in Laos.
Authorities indicated that the details sounded like something out of a movie script. It involved General Vang Pao, a former general inthe Laos Army in the 1960's and 1970's. It also included at least one former United States Army Officer that graduated from West Point in the sixties.
Twenty years ago this type of thing might have been spawned and encouraged by the US government, think Ollie North, the Sandinistas and Iran Contra . . . if you can remember. President Reagan could not.
But in 2007, six years after 9/11 its a different story. Authorities don't want people amassing weapons of destruction in the US.
