Bush Blocked Investigation into Administration Spying Program
This is a re-hash of old news, but the wires were circulating updated reports about President Bush's block of Justice Department Investigators at the OPR (Office of Professional Responsibility).
The group was originally tasked by the Attorney General to investigate accusations of illegal eavesdropping and monitoring of phone calls, internet surfing and email, and phone records of everyday Americans including members of both political parties.
It was reported at the time that Bush had denied security clearance to the non-partisan investigators despite granting clearance to other lawyers from the administration at the time, who appeared according to published reports so far to have no national security interests in the matter other than maybe political defense of the administrations actions.
The latest reports are mostly instigated by the Attorney General's testimony of the incident before Congress, who has the authority to exercise oversight over the executive branch along with the judiciary.
